LIFE IN ONE MOMENT

Struck by a fragment of a song
Time goes by, so slowly
How wrong that seems though, as I sit here
watching minutes streak across the clock face
But those minutes are really hours
and every hour a day
The relentless march of the clock
I reach out and grab one glowing moment,
clasping it tightly to my chest
Opening my hand a little, I steal a glimpse
This one precious second, writhing in my grasp.
So beautiful, so seemingly insignificant,
but all my life is in this fragment of time.
Minutes, hours, days, years,
all come down to this ever moving now.
I open my hand and watch the glowing spark of the present
fade into the embers of the past.
Then I reach out, to seize another.
